Michelle Butkus

Position: Head Coach

Michelle Butkus is a native of Medford, Wisconsin a small town that is home of Tombstone pizza! She is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire where she majored in Physical Education and minored in Adaptive Physical Education. 

She began her softball career at the young age of 6 and continued playing it throughout college. She began her collegiate career at the Division 2 level at the University of Minnesota Duluth where she held the homerun record, but after her sophomore year she transferred to the University of Eau Claire. There she captained her team to a NCAA National Championship title in 2008. Apart from her team’s success, Michelle was also successful earning 2008 NCAA All-Tournament Team, 2007 and 2008 WIAC All Conference Team, 2007 NFCA Great Lakes All Region Team and earned Academic Distinction for 8 semesters. 

Her experience in coaching is also extensive and something that she has been involved in since 2008. Being a Head High School Softball coach in Wisconsin, an Assistant at Blaine as well as a coach at the collegiate level,she has had the opportunity to learn and grow with and alongside many successful coaches. Her experience and passion for the game makes her eager to share her knowledge about the game with up and coming Blaine Bengals softball players. 

When she is not devoting her time to teaching and coaching others, you can find Michelle hanging with her partner, Amanda, dogs Leine and Thompson, at the Crossfit gym or cruising on the lake. A quote Michelle likes to live by is by Michael Jordan and that is "I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can't accept not trying." 



Keith Almberg

Position: JV Coach

Keith has coached fastpitch in the Soderville and Moose program for 8 years and coached his first year at Blaine as the JV coach in 2018. Prior to fastpitch Keith coached baseball for 14 years and won dual state Championships in 2010.  

Keith is married and has 4 children and 1 daughter – in – law. Wife Deb (Blaine 84’), son’s Zach (11’) his wife Megan (12’), Tyler (15’) and daughter’s Lindsay (13’) and Caitlyn (17’). All graduated from Blaine High School. 

Keith enjoys teaching the game of softball and to be around the great game of fastpitch softball.  To Quote the great Ernie Banks (Cubs) .It’s a beautiful day for a ball game…. Let’s play two.



Coley Fehringer

Position: Assistant Varsity Coach

Coley graduated in 2007 from Blaine High School, where she played four years of varsity softball as shortstop and catcher. She went on to play softball for the University of Minnesota-Duluth from 2007-2011. When she popped her kneecap out of place the first day of practice freshman year (and two more times before the end of her senior year), she quickly accepted her new role as first baseman and designated player. Coley has been the assistant varsity coach at Blaine since the 2013 season.


Neena Mathers

Position: Assistant Varsity Coach

Neena Mathers is from Brooklyn Park where she graduated from Park Center High School. She is a graduate of Bemidji State University where she majored in Sports Management, and received certification in coaching. She also attend Saint Mary’s University and received her masters in Emotional Behavior Disability (EBD). Neena is a special education teacher at Park Center Senior High, and co-teaches math. Neena got into Special Education because of her own challenges with learning. At a young age Neena was diagnosed withDyslexia and ADHD, and had to work hard to overcome those challenges, and looks forward to helping others. 

Neena started playing softball when she was 4 years old and continued playing into college. She played soccer and softball at Bemidji State University. Neena started coaching basketball in college at the local high school. She moved home and begun coaching soccer at Park Center Senior High and did that for 8 years. In 2013 Neena began coaching softball at Blaine High School, then coached two years at Maple Grove Senior High, and was Head Coach at Park Center Senior High for 3 years.  

Neena’s knowledge about softball is focused more in the area’s of Outfield and Hitting. In Neenaf ree time she works with under privileged youth in the Minneapolis community, gardens, rides her scooter, plays softball and takes care of her three fur babies. (Diesel 4, Blue 5, and Seven 2). Neena lives in Anoka with her boyfriend of 5 years in her newly purchased house. Neena’s  looking forward to the season and is excited to be back at Blaine High School where her coaching started.
